The street to a follow-up album for singer-songwriter Katie Pruitt was an extended one.

We first met the Georgia-born singer-songwriter in 2020, when she stopped by World Cafe to play songs from her debut album, Expectations. It explored Katie’s life as a queer Americana artist rising up within the South, working to be totally embraced by her Catholic household.

Quite a bit has modified in these final 4 years. After a lot time spent in search of understanding from the world round her, Pruitt turned inward. She’s simply launched her sophomore album, known as Mantras. She calls it a “full-circle journey from self-sabotage to self-compassion.”

On this session, Pruitt talks concerning the strategy of turning self-doubt into empathy for herself; and the way her relationship along with her mother and father modified within the aftermath of her debut.
