Ok’naan, ‘Wavin’ Flag’ artist, charged with sexual assault in Quebec Metropolis

Canadian rapper Ok’naan (given title Keinan Abdi Warsame), was charged with sexual assault in Quebec on Thursday in reference to an alleged incident from 2010 within the province’s capital metropolis.

The province’s Crown prosecutor workplace confirmed an arrest warrant was issued late final week for 47-year-old Warsame.

The singer, who delivered the 2009 smash-hit tune Wavin’ Flag, is alleged to have sexually assaulted somebody between July 16 and 17, 2010, in Quebec Metropolis. On the time, Warsame was within the province to carry out at Competition d’été de Québec.

Warsame was not current on the listening to Thursday morning and his lawyer appeared on his behalf, based on the Crown.

The preliminary inquiry within the case is ready for April 23, 2025.

Warsame was born in Somalia, however grew up in Toronto, Ont. The musician now lives in New York Metropolis.

His tune Wavin’ Flag pushed Warsame to worldwide success as after it was chosen as Coca-Cola’s promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. His monitor Refugee, launched in 2023, earned Warsame the Recording Academy’s Finest Track for Social Change Award.
