Typically you simply want a hug, and that is precisely what The Softies‘ music appears like.
Rose Melberg and Jen Sbragia fashioned the band within the mid-’90s in Portland, Ore., and so they launched an EP and three albums of heat, cozy songs about love, crushes and heartbreak earlier than taking a pause on the flip of the millennium.
However their friendship was at all times the premise of the band, and it saved going sturdy as their lives modified, relationships started and ended, and even after they moved to totally different cities.
Now, The Softies have returned with their first album in 24 years, known as The Mattress I Made, and listening to it’s a lot like choosing up with an outdated buddy precisely the place you left off, like no time has handed.
On this session, Rose and Jen speak about why it was time to make a brand new document, what’s been taking place of their lives, and what it felt like to come back again to songwriting, as a duo. In addition they speak about their early days in Portland, the Riot grrrl motion, and their friendship with Elliott Smith.
