The NYCTaper protection of the 2024 Deep within the Valley competition continues with Sean Thompson’s Bizarre Ears!
I’m going to be utterly upfront about this: This was the set I used to be most wanting ahead to going into the occasion, just because I’d been pestering Andy from Raven Sings The Blues for at the least two years to get Sean Thompson to play Deep In The Valley.
Sean is a guitar participant, songwriter, and usually good dude from Nashville. I’ll skip the background information; you may get all that on a latest episode of Good Pal of the Website J. M. Hart’s persistently wonderful Brokedown Podcast. The essential factor to glean from the interview is that Sean is now actively writing and focusing his power on the “Bizarre Ears” undertaking.
I used to be fortunate to take a seat with a number of individuals who have been unfamiliar with Sean’s work earlier than this set. With “nation music,” in no matter which means, having a little bit of a second within the bigger psych/improv/jam scene, it’s straightforward to attract comparisons to extra well-known names. Within the second, I tried to promote it to the uninitiated as “much like the title model country-tinged jam of us however extra genuine, weirder, and far more psychedelic.” To me, that interprets to far more fascinating, however that doesn’t do Sean’s work justice, and, to be honest, it was simply lazy on my half.
Fortunately for Sean, he doesn’t want me to promote you on this; him and his band will do it on their very own. This excellent-sounding set options tracks from his very good Selt Titled 2022 album in addition to some new jammers, together with the most recent single, “Ridin’ In The Van,” which has a model new video (debuting at present!) to go together with it:
Pre order your copy of the brand new Bizarre Ears album “Head In The Sand” (out February 7) right here. If he makes it again to the Hudson Valley for a correct full size set you may be certain I’ll be there!
I recorded this set with my MBHOs on the stage lip and an outstanding soundboard feed from FOH engineer Daniel Stout. Play it LOUD.
