As a part of its Fall 2024 Studio Sequence, the Martha Graham Dance Firm will current a preview of Lloyd Knight’s solo dance work, The Drama.
The Drama highlights the lifetime of Martha Graham Dance Firm principal dancer Lloyd Knight in an intimate and private solo impressed by his time as an artist and the ladies in his life — his mom and Martha Graham. Using dance, textual content and video, the efficiency lays naked what it takes bodily and psychologically to pursue a life in dance and touches on Knight’s upbringing and what drew him to bounce from an early age. The Drama is written and carried out by Knight, with choreography by Knight and Jack Ferver, and video design by Jeremy Jacob.
Performances are Friday, December 13, at 7pm, and Saturday, December 14, at 6pm, on the Martha Graham Studio Theater in Manhattan. Tickets are $30 (basic) / $20 (college students), and can be found on-line at marthagraham.org/studioseries. The Drama was commissioned by the Guggenheim’s Works & Course of and DANCECleveland, and developed over a collection of Works & Course of LaunchPAD residencies at Bridge Avenue Theatre, Trendy Accord Depot, and the Watermill Middle. The work was additionally developed throughout Knight’s analysis fellowship on the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in 2023. The Drama will premiere on the Guggenheim Museum in January 2025, adopted by performances in Cleveland, OH, in February 2025.
