[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 Episode 16 “The Return.”]
Apparently, all it took for Seth (Patrick Keleher) to be sincere along with his coworkers was getting fired, returning to search out everybody shunning him, making an attempt to show himself, and getting severely injured and shedding his leg because of this on the job.
“He was so blatantly sincere,” Keleher tells TV Insider as a part of our Booked: The Rookie Aftershow for the Tuesday, April 29, episode. “That is the one time, I feel, just about all the season the place he has to go away all of it out on the desk, and he lastly tells the reality.”
Seth returns to work, and nobody’s blissful about it, to the purpose that everybody turns their backs on him when he walks into the station. “I needed to depart to go to New York as a result of I used to be doing a play referred to as Fatherland, and we did an off-Broadway run, and that was my battle,” explains Keleher. “Once I was carried out, I got here again and shot Episode 16. So coming again after which filming that scene the place everyone stands up and turns their again, it felt too actual. I keep in mind telling everyone, ‘This doesn’t really feel proper. It appears like I actually am being shunned.’ And yeah, it was slightly too actual.”
There was initially a scene earlier than that: Tamara (Dylan Conrique) dropping him off. “It’s how the episode was presupposed to open. And in that scene, they only had this dialog. She says, ‘You are able to do it,’ and we get to see slightly bit extra inside their relationship,” Keleher reveals.
Seth’s first time round, he had Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) as his coaching officer. This time, it’s Nolan (Nathan Fillion), and he saves his life throughout a shootout (which leads to the damage that results in his leg being amputated). How a lot was that him making an attempt to show himself, and the way a lot may it have been a glimpse into who Seth actually is and may be if he stops doing, as he says, what he at all times does, making himself a sufferer?
“I feel he wasn’t making an attempt to show himself. I feel that was a really pure intuition, he simply noticed and he acted the way in which that he naturally did,” says Keleher. “He’s a superb child at coronary heart, just a bit blended up within the head.”
However his character has been modified now, he continues, with shedding his leg “the largest factor” to take action. As for who he’s now, Keleher doesn’t know. “I’d say fairly broken. I don’t know the place he’s at. In that final monologue, he talks about, ‘No one on the station needs me anymore. That is it. I’m carried out. I’m carried out.’ And nobody tries to cheer him up and says, ‘No, dude, you will have a second probability. You may come again in and in case you actually strive, you could be a good cop.’ So I don’t know the place he’s.”
