Compiling artistry: AVID performs second season ‘Boundless’

Symphony Area, New York, NY.
June 26, 2025.

AVID (Creative Ventures In Dance) carried out its second season, Boundless, at Symphony Area in late June 2025. The comparatively new firm is predicated in each NYC and Denver, CO, born of the concept that dancers and choreographers wanted house and freedom to take dangers, and discovering alternatives to do was inadequate. The combined repertory present included six items with one quick intermission.

The present opened with a classical piece, Confetti, by Gerald Arpino. The piece premiered in 1970 and is for 3 {couples}. It’s a joyful ode to scrub method, because the tone is gentle and fanciful, however the talent required is important. A pleasure to look at, even at 55 years previous. From there, we take a stark choreographic departure with Untamed Girls (Besides) by Ursula Verduzco. Having seen an extended model at a studio exhibiting final 12 months, this besides felt extra succinct, poignant and clear. Human (world premiere) by Cherice Barton and authentic rating by Anne-Marie Keane (who additionally scored Untamed Lady) combined hip hop/industrial kinds with modern ballet in pointe footwear. The crisp dancing and combined kinds lent themselves nicely to the concepts of resistance, grief, belief, acceptance and give up – all of which universally apply to people in all places.

Following intermission, we return to Persona, by Daniel Ojeda. The plotless ballet took us on a considerate journey exploring identification, and what happens when one’s sole goal (on this case, being a performer onstage) is stripped away. Beautiful ocean waves of sunshine acted because the buoyancy to maintain these heavy concepts afloat. Younger, Wild, & Free, (Danielle Diniz), was simply that – a trio for males expressing these phrases through highly effective and explosive actions and every dancer makes use of the power of the others to raise their very own expression. Lastly, we have now Impluse, by Quinn Wharton. The work is an exploration of pairing pointe footwear with digital music. The consequence is a fascinating dance whose sum was actually larger than its components, and delivered low-fi vibes, ending the evening in a chill and cool manner.

AVID introduced many great artists collectively through music, choreography and dance. Compiling such artistry for a more moderen firm is an enterprise, to say the least. From the viewers, it does certainly appear Boundless
